Unleash the Kraken!

I had so much fun making this card!  Constructing the card made me think.  First off………………what exactly is a Kraken???  Ok got it…………….then what colour do you colour a Kraken……………how can I make it fit the sketch from the challenge…………………..can I make it into a shaker card…….etc etc.

This is one card that turned out pretty much like I had envisioned it in my mind.

Papertrey Ink Kissing with Die Cuts

The Papertrey Make it Monday Challenge this week is a twist on the Kissing Technique.  This usually means that you touch or kiss a second stamp on to an inked up first stamp.  The result is that the pattern from the second stamp is transferred onto the first stamp. Then when you stamp on your card using the first stamp the pattern from the second stamp is transferred as well.  This makes for an interesting outcome.  Same thing happens when you kiss someone at work.  Lipstick gets transferred to his collar and there is an interesting outcome when he gets home from work!  But I digress ……………..  In this challenge instead of using a second stamp, we are using an intricate diecut to create the secondary pattern and transfer it to the stamp.  To further add interest, bits of the multi-stamped diecuts are also used on the card.  In the case of this card,  I used Friendly Flowers as the base stamp and the Scribbles die for the secondary pattern.  I then cut out the centres of the smallest scribbles die cuts to use as the flower centres.   Epoxy Bubbles from Close to My Heart finish off the flower centres.

This card is just plain “Charmin”

No, it really is Charmin.

A while ago I took a class from the immensely talented Christy Riopel.  Truth be told, she is both a talented artist and an equally talented Chef.  I confess, I mostly took her classes because of the gourmet lunches she provided.  Just to prove I was listening when she talked about something other than what she was making for lunch, though, I have used her “toilet paper” technique on this card entered in the Newton’s Nook sketch challenge.

You heard me right……………………toilet paper.  Apparently, I WAS distracted by thinking about lunch when she explained how to do the technique, as it took me three tries to get the toilet paper mat to not ooze out all over and disintegrate.  I won’t tell you how long it took to get these sticky failures cleaned off my Bigshot cutting plates and my embossing folder.

Anyway, when I finally got it right,  I thought the result was cute and matched perfectly with Naughty Newton’s toilet paper adventure.

Here is the sketch followed by my entry into the challenge:

And here is my entry:

I realized as I was making this that I watch way too many crime shows on TV.  I couldn’t help but feel like the Miniature Killer from CSI Las Vegas as I was rolling up these little balls of wool and stuffing them in the little jar.  I did stop short of depicting a dead body somewhere in the scene I created. 🙂

Photo Inspiration Challenge Altenew

When I first looked at the photo given for this Inspiration challenge, I was a bit stumped.  Usually, I try to incorporate all that I see in some way.  This was impossible with the multiple elements in the photo.  It was a good challenge as I had to pick out the pieces that spoke to me and create something from that.  I decided that wedding  (even though I understand it is a bakery window), ivory, gold and lace were the elements that stood out for me and could serve as the inspiration.  Here is the inspiration photo, followed by my entry into the challenge.
