The challenge this week was to use pumpkins in three different ways. This is one of my favourite types of challenges, so I dropped what I was doing (housework………so it was an easy choice) and started to get to fun. I decided not only to use pumpkings in three different ways but to use the very same pumpkin stamp in three very different ways, Additionally, I decided to make the three cards in three different styles with three different techniques. Amazingly, they all came together and I like them all! Oh happy day!

Sandra wanted to enter the My Favorite Things Challenge but as usual her breakneck speed lifestyle did not allow for much crafting time. She managed to send me all three allowable entries for posting on the deadline day.
Today is a busy day for me as well. I am filling in at the super fantastic Scrapendipity store all day, so that the super fantastic owner and sidekick, Selena and Holly can take the fully loaded super fantastic Little Green Truck (Scrapmobile) out to the Scrapbook Carnival site at Spruce Meadows and get set up. The Scrapbook Carnival starts tomorrow and the theme is Super Heroes. The Scrapbook Carnival is a lot of fun, and Creative Scrapbooker who sponsers the Carnival give away a swag bag that rivals the one at the Oscars!!! Ok maybe I exaggerate just a little, but IT IS a gooder!
But I digress……………..Here is Sandra’s first entry:
Pattern Paper – Home Cooking The Paper Loft
Memento Black Ink
MFT – Recipe for Happiness Stamps
Die-namics Die Cut – Place Setting
The challenge today at Papertrey Ink was to make something partially in black and white and partially in colour. I have done this type of card before with both a colouring/painting theme and with florals, so this time I wanted to try it with a different type of image. I looked through my stamp sets until I saw the Keep Swimming set. I thought the sea would be quite pretty in black and white and super cool in aqua colours.
In the end, I decided to add Shimmer Pico Embellisher to the fish. That made my whale recede into the background and he was supposed to be the star of the show. What to do, I decided to add the same embellisher to him. I had what I thought was barely enough Shimmer Embellisher left in my bottle, so I squeezed quite hard. Out came a TON of liquid onto the whale (yes, pun intended) and it was quickly spreading and threatening to pour all over the ocean area. What to do. A quick run to the bathroom for a tissue to sop up some of the liquid, saved the day. Now, the next Make it Monday may be posted before this image is dry enough to attach to the card base, but if I can just be patient……………………..
(go for a shower)
If I had the right keys on my keyboard, I would type out the Jeopardy final question music……………………..
Ok couldn’t wait and I took it outside and perched it on a stump of a tree and tried to take a quick picture before the wind blew the whole still wet thing into the dirt below. The picture is not the best but at least it is not covered in dirt.
Supplies: Papertreey Ink Keep Swimming stamp set, Copic markers, Lifestyle crafts nested labels, fun foam, Pico Shimmer Embellisher, Elizabeth Crafts Metals 6 X 6 patterned paper, Simon Says Stamp card base and Scor tape
Last winter in Phoenix, I was introduced to the ancient game of Mahjongg. What a humbling experience. My first few attempts at the game were pathetic and I felt like I was on a roller coaster…………………….hanging on for dear life ………………and feeling totally out of control. Each game got a little easier though, and eventually I would add a few more elements to how I would play (like some defense and having a back up strategy) I am still pretty lousy but am totally smitten with the game. So smitten, in fact, that I wanted to combine this new addiction with my other addiction of cardmaking.
I could not recall ever having seen a rubber stamp with Mahjongg as the image subject, so I was anticipating problems. I needn’t have fretted though, as it was Ruths Jewish Stamps to the rescue. I am not kidding …………this is the name of the stamp company at which I found Mahjongg stamps.
Here is the first card I made with these precious stamps. It just makes me smile. Thank you to Ruths Jewish Stamps for making my day.
Supplies: Ruth Jewish stamps Mahjongg Diva and tile stamps, Inky Antics Gambling Worldly Women, Memory Box cross stitched rectangles, Lifestyle Crafts embossing folder, Copic markers, unknown scrap glitter paper, Scor tape
I had a couple of new to me Paper Smooches stamp sets in my new drawer. I thought that this month’s challenge would be an opportunity to try them out. The problem was that one of them had absolutely nothing to do with the subject of summer. It is the stamp set called Off the Charts and has graphs and pie charts and the like. It looked more like school than a beach! What to do? Using the”Got Lemons, Make Lemonade” philosophy, I decided to make a scene depicting “Summer School”!
In the end, I pulled out just about every Paper Smooches stamp set I have, to pull together this card. I have to mention that the stamp set Great Chemistry from Paper Smooches gets my personal award for versatility. I have made the Chemistry Professor into every one from a monster, to Mark Twain and to today’s Beach Bum.
In fact, I am going to post the Mark Twain card here today as well. My co-blogger Sandra told me that I was probably the only person in the world, that would see the humour in this card. Probably, has something to do with my interest in the history of English literature, which is not a wildly popular subject among cardmakers. Anyway, she was right as it did not get picked for publication on a theme about Mark Twain quotes……………………sigh.
Still and all, my little Chem Prof is pressed into service today as a hairy-legged beach bum, and I think he is adorbs.
Here he is in his role as Mark Twain. He even LOOKs like Mark Twain!
The June challenge at Paper Smooches is to use layers. It seemed odd to me at first as I think Paper Smooches is the Poster Child for CAS cards (Clean and Simple).
Sandra has made a card that shows that you can do CAS with layers.
Cardstock: Stampin Up
Pattern Paper: DCWV & Craft Smith
Ink: Memento Black
Die Cut: Simon Says Stamps
I thought it might be fun to combine a coffee themed card with the oh so trendy right now flamingos. I have some great new flamingo stamps, but when I got looking at my stash it was this older one from Art Impressions that had the perfect image to go with the Crackerbox Palace sentiment that I wanted to use.
i watercoloured the background and used Copics on the popped up elements. The message is don’t spill your coffee no matter what happens!
Supplies: Art Impressions Flamingo Set stamp set, Crackerbox Palace sentiment stamp, Distress Watercolor paper, Gambnsai Tambi wateercolours, Copic markers, Janes Doodles Coffee Time Set, Wink of Stella glitter pen, Recollections White embossing powder,Recollections cardstock, Pico embellisher, Simon Says Stamp card base and Scor Tape
