Coffee Lovers Blog Hop Summer 2017 Day 7

I thought I was finished making cards for this blog hop, but wouldn’t you know………..another idea popped into my head and just wouldn’t leave.  Mercifully, the card came together much as it looked in my head with no real hitches.

I started thinking about a coffee card.. card (?) for three reasons.  First of all I am going on a cruise and was in the process of pre-ordering a coffee card so I would not have to drink the swill that they offer in most ship buffets.  Secondly I was thinking about turning several of the coffee cards I have made into gift card holders just to use them up sometime in my lifetime.  And finally, I had just gotten the Flip Up dies from Lawn Fawn’s latest release and wanted to take them for a test drive.

It took three photographs to show all the ways this card works.  Take a look:

Coffee Lover’s Bloghop Day 6

Today I combined four different stamp sets to create this little “Coffee Mirage” scene.  I am always happy when I pull out one of my first stamp sets and use it again.  Justifies, why I just grow my huge collection and never de-stash.  Anyway,  I know that we are to combine coffee with winter as the theme for the bloghop.  So it is winter in my desert scene, but how do I show it?  By making the coffee cup look like the new Starbucks Winter Cup, that is how.

Online Card Class Day 2 Using Vellum in a Scene

Here is a quick card using vellum in a scene.  One of the rare times, I took the two minutes required to run upstairs to my sewing machine to attach the vellum.

Impression Obsession Challenge

The Challenge theme at Impression Obsession is “Snowy”.  Of course, I have a new die from Impression Obsession I wanted to use.  I liked this die so much I apparently ordered it 3 times.    I have ordered the same thing twice before, but three times is a record even for me.  Lucky for me, it was just a little die for not very much money, so I didn’t feel the need to hang myself over it.  My friends, Sandra and Kim received an early Christmas present from me, to get rid of the evidence.

Supplies:  Impression Obsession 335-A (times three!) and 122-R dies, Pebbles and Bo Bunny patterned paper, Simon says Stamp card base, 3M foam tape, acetate and Scor tape.

Online Card Class Day 11

Today’s class was about using the same stamp in five different styles.  So far I have managed to create three styles with my Painted Poinsettia stamp set from Papertrey Ink.

At the risk of sounding like Captain Obvious, I found out it was important sketch out ideas for all five styles before committing to a particular stamp.  I found this out after I dove in and created my Clean and Simple card.  It came together quite easily, but what to do for the classic elegant card.  I found it difficult to use the full surface poinsettia stamp I had chosen, and create classic elegance.  In the end, I did an background of plain poinsettias and then added some glittery ones with foam tape to provide the elegance.  The third card was to be whimsical.  Three garbage attempts and a keeper (but not for this exercise) later, I came up with a whimsical card that I liked.

This exercise was a bigger challenge than I anticipated, but I enjoyed making it work.

Online Card Class- Day 6

Today was an inspiration day at the Online Card Class-Holiday Style.  Didn’t have too much time to play today but did make one card.  This was a card that ended up very different than what I had in my head at the beginning.  I just recently got some miniature pom-pom ribbon that I thought I would use for berries on the wreath on the flamingo.  But try as I might, the idea had problems. When I cut the pom poms off the ribbon, that they came on, I could see that the interior was white instead of red.  No problem, I thought, I just painted them red. When I put them on the wreath though, the pom poms became the focal point, because they were just too big.  Time to abandon ship and try something else.  In the end I used red seed beads that gave a tiny bit of dimension without taking over.  The rest of the card evolved as well.  While putting lights on the palm tree with liquid pearls, I thought of a past trip I had taken to Miami at this time of year.  I was thinking about how weird it felt to be in shorts and flip flops sitting on a cafe patio, surrounded by Christmas lights, music and trees.  It seem like the world stopped, though time went on, and it was July and no one had moved to take the decorations down.   (That actually does happen here in Canada but it is because we are still frozen and can’t move 🙂 ).  In the end, I decided to mix traditional Christmas colours with the sunset colours of South Beach.  Then I made the whole thing a snow globe, cause really………….how else does a flamingo get to experience snow.

I wish I didn’t have to use the flash, as it really washed out the vibrant colours.

Online Card Class Holiday Style Day 3

Here are a couple more samples from our Online class today.  One uses Gold to create elegance (in my example mostly Delicata Gold ink) and the other uses mixed colours of metal to create elegance.

Impression Obsession Challenge

I wanted to enter the Impression Obsession Challenge but I don’t currently own any sentiments from IO, so what to do?  I decided to let the flip flops  and the colours of the Adirondack Chairs tell the story.  Fall is definitely coming as shown by the colours of the chairs and the various states of disrepair in the flip flops.

I’m baaaaaaaaack!!!!!!!

I am back from a fantastic week long cruise in Fabulous Alaska!

I will be busy making  layouts of the trip to put in my terribly overpriced but oh so nice scrapbook album I bought on the cruise ship.  I can take days to put together a scrapbook layout that I like, though, so I thought I would just post a quick card today.

On my cruise, we saw lots of Humpback Whales, which was amazing!  I was even more amazed to find out that the whales, while in Alaska must eat 22 hours a day to get enough fat stored to survive their journey to and time spent in Hawaii.  Well never one to turn down a challenge………………………..I chose to eat about 23 hours a day on the cruise ship.  Sadly, I could live on the fat I stored for the rest of my life.  You have heard about “swimming with the Dolphins” while in the Bahamas, well I signed up to swim all the way to Maui with the Humpback Whales.  It is the only way, I am going to lose the weight I gained on this cruise.

Humpback Whales have these “kinda Hippie looking macrame curtains” that hang down around their gigantic mouths to filter out things they shouldn’t eat (that is why I am not afraid to swim to Hawaii with them 🙂 ). Well, no such filter on my mouth, so about fifteen forbidden Creme Brulees made their way right on down to my hips and stayed there.

I made a card to enter into the Impression Obsession Card Challenge.  It appears though, that while I remembered how to eat on holidays, I did forget how to read.  I failed to read the instructions that clearly indicated that all stamps and dies have to be from Impression Obsession (except for mats).  Because my card has three stamps not from Impression Obsession, it would not make it past the “Hippie Macrame Curtain” challenge filter.  I will post it here anyway, and see if I can make a qualified one for the challenge a little later.

You can see my attention to detail in this card.  You will note that one flip flop has a strap  that has pulled right out of the sole.  I did this to emphasize that summer is now over and we are heading into fall.  It is not very realistic though as my flips usually flop mid July and don’t make it till the end of the season!

Supplies:  Impression Obsession Deer (DIE080-N) and Adirondack Chair (DIE190-C), Elizabeth Crafts die All Season’s Tree, River City Rubber Works Spruce Trees,  Recollections Cardstock, Hero Arts card base,  Simon Says Stamp Giving Thanks Stamp Set, Copic Markers, Neenah Solar white cardstock, Versafine Onyx Black Ink and Scor tape.
