Scrapshotz Fall Crop Day

Yesterday was the day for the fall crop put on by Scrapshotz online store. It is always fun to meet up with crafters that I haven’t seen for a while.

One of my favourite stamp companies is The Ton, and Scrapshotz has begun to carry their stamps.  So today I am posting a card I made with one of many great The Ton stamps.  I am not a watercolouring expert by any stretch of the imagination, but as someone pointed out, this large face stamp is a good place to start practicing.  I used a rose gold embossing powder to outline the poinsettia which is also from The Ton.

Make it Monday #295 Papertrey Ink

I didn’t start out to make this card.  Truth be known I started out to clean toilets, but hey, I am easily distracted.  I estimated that I could make a card in under an hour as I had made Z fold cards before.   Ha Ha Ha.  About an hour into the construction, I decided the background was too plain.  I then decided to turn it into a watercolour card.   Blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda.   Somewhere along the way it kind of turned into a Papertrey Ink meets Heartfelt Creations kind of card.  Yes, it is kind of odd, but I like it.

Making Cards for Scrapendipity

The other day Selena (owner of Scrapendipity) asked me if I would make a couple of cards as samples for the store .  In one case, she was thinking of bringing in “3D”stamps made by Spellbinders and wanted some Calgary Stampede cards to show how they work.  In the other case, she wanted a shaker card for Canada’s 150 birthday, that used a sequin mix made exclusively for Scrapendipity.

The Canada Birthday shaker card was made from a shaker kit from Cheery Lynn designs, and was a snap to make.  It was like using a cake mix, rather than baking from scratch, and the result was great, too.

I thought the cactus stamp from Spellbinders was going to be more difficult.  How do I make the cactus the focal point, but still dress up the rest of the card.  Once I got going, the ideas multiplied like rabbits (sorry I was talking with my Mom about the rabbits eating her flower garden this morning) and before I knew it, I had 5 cards made and ideas for about 10 more floating about in the debris of the scraproom.  I decided it would be interesting to see how the stamped image turned out depending on the medium used to colour it.  Turns out that you can use any medium you like and the results are good with these 3D stamps.  The image has the shading built into it and it just blends into whatever medium you decide to use.  The results are good, no matter what, and you don’t need a ton of colours.

The mediums I used were; simply two ink pads, copic markers, Zig Real Brush Markers, Prismacolor pencils with Gamsol, and Gansai Tambi watercolours.  Can you tell which was which?

Colouring Challenge Day 3

I would like to say I am on track to complete the 30 day colouring challenge put out by The Daily Marker, but it is now Day 3 and I am just now thinking about posting something.

I decided to do a background using Colorburst together with a Tim Holtz image coloured with Zig Real Brush markers. I love Colorburst watercolours but I have come to realize that you cannot use them successfully if you are a control freak.  I have also realized that you will make approximately fifteen backgrounds  before selecting one for a card, so using them is not too economical either. No matter, as they are fun to use.

I got the idea for this card from…………………you guessed it……………the news.  Some lady  in Phoenix shot her boyfriend’s penis off and indicated he had it coming for cheating on her.  He vehemently denies the cheating part but has no comment on the shooting part. Cray Cray I tell you.

Make it Monday # 262 Papertrey Ink

The challenge this week was to use pumpkins in three different ways.  This is one of my favourite types of challenges, so I dropped what I was doing (housework………so it was an easy choice) and started to get to fun.  I decided not only to use pumpkings in three different ways but to use the very same pumpkin stamp in three very different ways,  Additionally, I decided to make the three cards in three different styles with three different techniques.   Amazingly, they all came together and I like them all!  Oh happy day!

Papertrey Ink-Blog Hop Challenge – August 25

Here is the inspiration photo for the Blog Hop Challenge.

I decided that I wanted to capture the texture of the paint as well as the colour.  At first, I thought about digging out some Acrylic paints but then decided that coloured embossing paste would really emphasize the texture.  I had the paintbrushes from the Friendship Jar Fillers set so the card came together quickly.

I coated the paintbrushes with clear embossing powder so make them stand out more against the strong background.  I think it turned out quite well.
